Birthday Card for Helen

My mom is going to Georgia this weekend to celebrate her friend, Helen's, birthday. I offered to make her a card and wanted to try something I saw on someone's blog. "Gasp!" I know, I cased a card. In the card making world, casing is perfectly acceptable as long as you give the original maker credit. And, of course, I would never sell a card I cased.

I did this because I need to get more comfortable with layering and her card provided a great template for me to try. Her card is here and her name is Carolyn and she is part of the House Mouse blogging designers.

I think it turned out great and gave me a tutorial to get more comfortable with layering. What do you thik?

Wok's Card

Today is Wok's birthday. Wok, in case you didn't know, is my mother. Once my husband and I settled down and quit moving around, she packed up and moved to our state and bought a house on the next block. We love having her so close. The boys get to see her all the time and have a really close relationship with her.

I've been asked about her name. We aren't sure where it came from. My oldest named her. We think it was because when he was around two, she would come over and ask if he wanted to go for a walk. We think "Wok" may have been his two-year old way of saying "walk". He would say it every time she came over and it stuck. And she absolutely loves having a special name that the was chosen for her by her grandson.

I made this for her today. Her friend, Helen, is up and we are going to cook out tonight after they are done doing girly things.

Cards For Teachers

This was to be one of my planned posts from my Florida vacation. It's not timely, but I wanted to do it anyway.

For Stasiu's teacher gifts at the end of the year, we put a card set together. I pulled a couple cards from my stock then made two others.

This one is obvious; we live in South Carolina and I had been wanting to do one with the symbol from the state flag.

Everyone needs a birthday card ready to give.

These are the ones my son made. He made each one for a specific teacher and wanted to be sure they got the intended ones.

I finished them with some additional paper and we chose the card base to match the bears.
I think he did a wonderful job!

Birthday Card for a Guy

I've been away for a week with the kids and with no wifi access. I had planned several posts, but couldn't do anything about it! So, I hauled my laptop all the way to Florida for no reason. Back to the usual routine now with lots of planned posts.


My brother-in-law just had a birthday and we sent him a gift along with this card. I like the stamp, but it took a long time to color it in!

Birthday Presents Card

I originally made this card for a good friend who turned 56. I thought she deserved lots and lots of presents for her birthday.

Birthday Wishes Card

This is a sweet card I made for a young girl's birthday. It is a fairy from Paper Makeup Stamps. I normally don't talk about where my stamps and other supplies come from, but this one is different. A friend of mine started a stamp company recently and this particular stamp is from the Beautiful Day Fairies and is called Kirsten. I just love this one blowing on a dandelion. Happy Birthday Card

This is a card I made for a little girl's birthday. My god child, Laura, as a matter of fact. I liked the paper and wanted to show it off instead of covering it up with a stamp of something like I normally do. The butterflies are on pop up dots and their wings are bent as if they just landed.

Happy Hippo Card

I made two of these cards for some little guys in our lives. One is my nephew who just turned 2 and another is for some friends who's little one turned 1 recently. I used the same layout as Rocket Man in my last post. This layout works great for this set. It is called "Pun Fun" and is from Stampin' Up!. All the stamps are roughly the same size which is about 2 1/2 inches by 2 1/1 inches so this layout works nicely.

I'm going to make some similar to this for my etsy shop soon. I just love that little hippo, don't you?

Rocket Man Card

This is a cute card I made for a boy in my son's class who recently had a birthday. What little boy does not love rocket ships? I think the circle paper helps with the outer space feel of it. You can find it in my etsy shop if you have a little Rocket Man of your own!

Butterfly Wishes Card

I made a similar card for a little friend of my son's. It was for her 3rd birthday. I was so pleased with it, I decided to add it to my shop. The sentiment says "may all your wishes come true". The butterfly curves up and rests lightly on the card just over the ribbons. You can find this in my etsy shop and I will add one in my artfire shop as well. Enjoy!

Birthday Party

On Saturday, my oldest and I went to a birthday party for a little girl from our playgroup. We had a wonderful time. It was nice to get some of the kids together. Since school started last week, we haven't been able to make many playdates at all.

It was a beautiful day out. The kids go to run around and get crazy. They had hot dogs for lunch then cake and ice cream. One of the dads gave all the kids straws to suck up the ice cream as it was melting. They had a blast with that part!

The card above is the one I made for the birthday girl. I wanted something sweet and fun. The sentiment at the bottom is "bird-day". The card itself is blue base with the yellow over half. I stamped white flowers on it and covered the seam with blue and white ribbon. The inspiration for this card was found on another site a very long time ago--so long I can't find the original anymore. That's what happens when you make cards and they sit around before you post them.

The below picture is my oldest. There were fuzzy hats and purses being handed out. The boys, of course, were the ones interested. So, as we left, they all had matching fuzzy purses and hats. My son found a spyglass somewhere and was playing with it. At the time of this post he is watching Dirty Jobs --you guessed it--wearing his hat.

Wok Turns 60

Wok, also known as my mom, turns 60 tomorrow. For her birthday we got her a family ring. It is very simple and pretty. It has a stone for each of us, me, my husband, the kids, and is set in silver. I think she'll like it.

For a card, I wanted to make something a bit sophisticated instead of silly or funny. I'm thinking that 60 is a milestone and want to give it the respect it deserves. I have this great paper from K&C Company. It is double sided and I really like it for cards. Instead of having a blank inside, there is a pattern. I just put plain, light-colored card stock on one side for writing a note.

I don't have to worry about Wok seeing it, as she doesn't read my blog. I think she would be perfectly happy living without a computer. Oh, the horrors!
